A common problem for crafters is that sometimes you want to make something, but you don’t need anything. The struggle is real.
To remedy this problem, we have listed some causes and organizations that need your knits, even when you don’t.
Knit for Peace UK distribute donations of knitting, crochet and supplies to over 200 different outlets, including hospitals, women’s refuges, refugee drop-in centres, prisons, community groups, and hospices as well as to developing countries. They send knitting and crochet to where it’s needed. They also pass on donations of yarn and needles to enable people on low incomes to knit. The operation has grown organically, and they now estimate a membership of over 22,000 knitters.
Spare yarn squares? No problem. Send them Blanket Square for the Homeless to be turned into, you guessed it, blankets! There are Pods in Paignton, Reading, St Albans, Soham, Wigan, Nottingham, Southport, Co Durham, Lancashire, West Cumbria, Isle of Wight, Hampshire, Leeds and Blanket HQ in Kent. You can connect with HQ and local pods on Facebook.
If you know about any charitable organisations that need your knits, tell us and we will add them to our list.
